Learn how to use OUTRANK to discover content opportunities and outrank your competitors

1.Getting Started

Create Your Account

Sign up for a free account at outrank.com/register. No credit card required to get started.

Purchase Analysis Runs

Navigate to the Payment page to purchase analysis runs. Each run generates 24 quarterly content opportunities for one client.

Navigate Your Dashboard

After logging in, you'll be taken to your dashboard where you can manage clients, view analyses, and generate content briefs.

2.Adding Clients

Before running an analysis, you need to add a client to your account.

Step 1: Navigate to Clients

Click "Clients" in the main navigation, then click "+ Add Client" button.

Step 2: Enter Client Information

  • Client Name: Your client's business name
  • Website URL: The domain you want to analyze (e.g., example.com)
  • Core Services: 3-5 main services they offer (e.g., "web design", "SEO", "branding")
  • Target Location: Geographic focus (optional)
  • Target Audience: Who they serve (optional)

Step 3: Save Client

Click "Add Client" to save. The client will now appear in your clients list.

3.Running Analysis

Start a New Analysis

From the client detail page, click "Run New Analysis". The system will:

  1. Analyze the client's existing content and current rankings
  2. Expand core services into 50+ topic opportunities using keyword research
  3. Fetch SERP data for each topic to discover real competitors (top 10 ranking URLs)
  4. Score and prioritize topics based on volume, difficulty, and relevance
  5. Select top 24 opportunities for a quarterly content calendar
  6. Organize topics by month and week (8 topics per month)

Analysis Time

A typical analysis takes 2-5 minutes to complete. You'll receive a notification when it's ready.

What's Analyzed

  • Client's existing keyword rankings (up to 1,000 keywords)
  • Top 10 SERP competitors for each opportunity
  • Search volume and keyword difficulty
  • Related keywords and search intent
  • Content gaps where competitors rank but client doesn't

4.Understanding Results

Overview Section

At the top of your analysis results, you'll see:

  • Keywords Analyzed: Total keywords discovered for analysis
  • Topics Generated: Number of opportunities identified (24 selected)
  • Quick Wins: Existing pages ranking 4-30 that can be improved
  • Top Competitors: Most frequent domains ranking across your target topics

Content Opportunity Types

✅ Improve Existing

Topics where your client ranks on pages 1-3 (positions 1-30) but could improve. Optimize the existing page.

📄 Content Gap

Topics where competitors rank but your client doesn't. Create new content to capture these opportunities.

✨ New Content

Brand new topic opportunities not currently targeted by anyone. First-mover advantage.

Content Brief Options

For each topic, you can generate two types of content briefs:

  • Long-Form Brief: Comprehensive guides (2,000-3,000 words) for in-depth coverage
  • Short-Form Brief: Focused articles (800-1,200 words) for specific topics
  • Choose the format that best fits your content strategy and keyword intent
  • Both formats include SEO optimization, competitor analysis, and actionable outlines

Priority Score

Each opportunity has a priority score (0-100) calculated from:

  • Volume Score (40 points): Higher search volume = higher priority
  • Difficulty Score (30 points): Lower difficulty = higher priority
  • Relevance Score (30 points): How well the keyword matches core services

5.Generating Content Briefs

Once you have your analysis results, you can generate comprehensive content briefs for each opportunity.

How to Generate a Brief

  1. Click "Get Brief" on any topic card
  2. The system analyzes top 3-5 competitor pages (scrapes content)
  3. AI generates a comprehensive content brief tailored to beat competitors
  4. Brief is saved and can be exported (copy, PDF, or Word)

What's Included in Each Brief

  • SEO Title & Meta Description: Optimized for click-through rate
  • Content Outline: H2/H3 structure with guidance for each section
  • Competitor Summary: What top pages cover + gaps they miss
  • Secondary Keywords: Related terms to include with search volumes
  • FAQ Questions: From "People Also Ask" data
  • Internal Linking: Suggestions for linking to related content
  • AIO Optimization: Tips for featured snippets and AI overviews
  • Target Word Count: Based on brief type (short-form or long-form)

Exporting Briefs

Briefs can be exported in multiple formats:

  • Copy to Clipboard: Plain text with formatting preserved
  • Download PDF: Professional PDF document
  • Download Word: Editable .docx file for Microsoft Word

6.Frequently Asked Questions

How many clients can I have?

Unlimited! You can add as many clients as you need. Each analysis run is used for one client.

Do analysis runs expire?

No, your purchased analysis runs never expire. Use them whenever you need them.

Can I run multiple analyses for the same client?

Yes! Run a fresh analysis every quarter to discover new opportunities as the SERP landscape changes.

What if my client has no existing rankings?

That's fine! The analysis will focus on content gaps and new opportunities based on your core services and target keywords.

Can I edit the generated titles and briefs?

Yes, you can export briefs and edit them in Word or Google Docs. Future updates will add in-app editing.

How accurate is competitor discovery?

Very accurate! We fetch real SERP data showing the actual top 10 ranking URLs for each keyword. These are your true competitors, not manually guessed domains.

What data sources do you use?

We use DataForSEO for keyword data, search volume, difficulty, and SERP results. Claude AI analyzes competitor content and generates briefs.
